Avery County Sheriff's Office Recent Press Release
On April 16th Deputies with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from 140 Hagie Hollow Rd in Elk Park. The Deputies met with 31 year old Joshua Childers. Mr. Childers appeared to be intoxicated and insisted on Deputies searching his home for intruders. On entering the home Deputies found evidence of a Meth lab. The State Bureau of Investigation was called to assist with the lab clean-up and Mr. Childers has been charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine.
On April 22nd Deputies with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24 year old Robert Collare of Broad Top, Pennsylvania. Collare met a sixteen year old female from Avery County online several months ago. He traveled to Avery County and attempted to drive the juvenile back to Pennsylvania on April 22nd. Investigators with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office drew the abduction charges and he was arrested and the juvenile returned to her parents.
On 04/30/2012 a male student at Avery County High School was charged with bringing weapons on school property. The weapons involved were two hunting knives and two pocket knives.
The North Carolina Governors Highway Safety Program is sponsoring a “Motorcycle Safety Week Campaign” from April 30th through May 06th. The Avery County Sheriff’s Office and other local law enforcement agencies will participate in the campaign.
