Last Friday under beautiful blue skies the Special Olympics for 2012 was opened at Avery County High School’s McDonald Stadium.

Avery County School Superintendent David Burleson opened the ceremony by welcoming everyone to the games; thanked all the volunteers, and everyone that helped organize the games,  especially the athletes for their participation in the games. 

Once the games began , smiles were in large abundance from everyone at the event. 

Many awards were given as all the athletes were given medals and ribbons to proudly display for their efforts at the 2012 Special Olympics.
