Cinco de Mayo Celebration In Burnsville May 5
Cinco de Mayo events for this Saturday May 5th in Burnsville
Cinco de Mayo Musical Lineup
Saturday, May 5, from 10 AM to 2 PM on Burnsville's Town Square there will
be ethnic food, music and folkloric dancing. Mexico has a great variety
of folkloric dances. Each state has its own music and costume. To see
the dances is to feel the joie de vivre of the people and experience the
rhythm, grace and color of the presentation.
Several dance groups will be on stage. From Forest City Cuauhtemoc
Melgar's young people will be doing a dance from Veracruz. Coming all the
way from Charlotte is "Cielito Lindo", a professional group led by Marlene
Carbajal. They will showcase dances from Veracruz (La Bamba!), Tierra
Caliente, which includes Michoacan and Guerrero, and the state of Nayarit.
Local dancers from Burnsville are expected to participate.
The featured band, "Intrepidos" from Spruce Pine, has keyboard, strings,
brass and drums. You won't want to miss them. Capping the musical events
is Roberta Whiteside, well-known musician and vocalist, doing jazz and
gospel. Ron Powell emcee's the event, which is planned by the
Multi-cultural Education Group, cincodemayo814@gmail.com. All proceeds go
to charity.
