Old Beech Mountain Community News
When my brother in law David Norris decided to partnership his online news site Avery News. Net with the Avery Post, he asked me if I would be interested in writing a news column for the Old Beech Mountain Community.
I thought it would be a great opportunity to add our community to the Avery Post, as the Post has some great community writers currently.
In my first column, I would like to tell you a little about myself.
I was born and raised in the Beech Creek Community of Watauga County. Roger Norris my husband and I were married in 1975; we live in the Flat Springs Community and attend Flat Springs Baptist Church.
We have two children, Roger Lee and Erica Norris Johnson.
We also are the proud grandparents of four grandchildren.
I would ask anyone that would like to contribute news in the “Old Beech Mountain Community” to give me a call (828-297-5512), birthdays, anniversaries, or church events are welcomed.
I would like to dedicate this news column in honor of Mrs. Mina Jones.
Mina passed away last Sunday March 4; she has been an inspiration to our community and always greeted everyone with a beautiful smile.
Mina was born on May 8, 1921; she married Danton Jones July 28, 1935.
They had two sons and four daughters.
Danton and Mina were very active members of the community and Flat Springs Baptist church, where Danton was a deacon for several years.
We will never forget her beautiful flowers around her home, working in her garden and making hooked rugs and quilts.
Most of all Mina will be remembered for her love of God, her family and to all of her neighbors she touched.
Fall Creek Baptist Church is having a singing Sunday March 18 at 11 am. Everyone is invited to come and see the group “The Brothers Redeemed” perform.
Spring is almost here, flowers will soon be blooming and gardens will be planted, until next week may God Bless everyone.
